Replacement Responder Car 14-02-2011
The Hayling Community Responders have now taken ownership of their new vehicle, a Ford Focus Estate. Purchased from Daron Ford on Hayling Island and funded by Bands in the Barn, who have donated £7,000 in 2010 and have promised a further £7,000 from the profits of this year’s event which is to be held on Saturday June 18th.
The new vehicle will enable us to continue to support South Central Ambulance Service, by providing emergency first aid on Hayling Island when a member of the Community dials 999 and the call is categorised as a potentially life threatening situation.
The Community Responders are all volunteers who live on Hayling, many of whom have been responding for many years. We now have 20 volunteers sharing the rota, with a further 3 volunteers about to qualify.
In January we responded to 60 calls made by the public, which brings the total number of emergencies attended by the Community Responders to over 11,000 since the scheme began in 2000. The scheme relies solely on contributions made by the public and other local organisations. It costs on average £10,000 per year to respond in the community, and we continue to be extremely grateful to receive such generous donations.
HICR Christmas Party! 10-12-2010
On Friday 10th December, we held our Christmas Party at the Royal British Legion. Over 75 tickets were sold to Responders and their friends and families, and over £250.00 was raised through the raffle. Thank you to everyone on the Island who kindly donated prizes.
Late Night Shopping Mengham 02-12-2010
We enjoyed a very warm welcome from the Mengham shop keepers on Thursday 2nd December at the late night shopping event. Although the weather meant that the event was quiet compared to previous years, we were grateful to collect over £80.00 in the street collection.
Remembrance Sunday 2010 14-11-2010
This month the Community Responders took part in the Remembrance Sunday Parade organised by the Royal Britsh Legion on Sunday 14th November. The Parade met in Mengham Car Park and marched to the Elm Grove Cenotaph where wreaths were laid by many of the local associations and clubs.

HAYLING publicans Roger and Carole Young were delighted with the success of their latest charity event, which raised more than £3,000. Roger and Carole very generously chose to donate £1,000 of the proceeds to the Community Responders.
The popularity of the event was particularly gratifying for Carole, who is herself suffering from cancer.
Taking part in the outdoor sessions were DNA Cowboys, Sly Hardy, Vernon's Friends, Strawberry Blonde, Underlay Underlay, Mark Handley, Planet Graffiti, The Revivals, Shep Wooley, No Idea, The Dolphins, Absolute Zero, Tobo Lumpfoot, the Rock 'n' Roll Hoodlums and Beautiful Noise.
On August 16, there was a ceremony at the West Town, when TV presenter Fred Dinenage handed over the proceeds from the festival to charity organisers.
